Life Around Horses
... by Alice Brown at the Kenner Horse Ranch
Yes, you're probably thinking life around horses is smelly and a bunch of work. Well you're right, but who cares. It does take a lot of work to keep a horse, but that's the way it is. We have to clean tack, stalls, brush them, feed and take care of them when they're sick. And we have to always pay attention to them when we're around them.

They're like any other pet, but much bigger and they take a bit more work. Some horses take more work than others, but that depends on their owner and how they treat them.  Me, I treat my horses like babies: I brush them thoroughly, give them treats and treat them well. So, I guess that means mine take a bit more work.

Working around horses and other animals gives us a sense of respect and we learn to appreciate them. They give us a feeling that money and other material things just can't give us. They give us a sense of freedom and overall happiness. Some people don't appreciate horses and don't understand why other people ride. Well I can tell you why! We always feel good when we're around them and always have more fun. Some of us get to hang out with our horses and friends and ride with them, which makes it even more fun. I don't know about any other horse person, but I have a blast.   I'm horse crazy!

When I'm around horses I learn more about them every day and always use it to my best ability. When I learn something new, it's like I'm learning something new about myself. We all have to learn about them and how they live. Horses are great.  After many years of being around them, I want to continue my life always being around them and helping them to live a great life, just like us.  I have always liked horses and I think I always will. The good thing is that, after all the work, I get to ride at the end of the day and that's why I do all the work... to ride!
