If we humans have difficulty with our inter-human relationships, how do we begin to establish a bond with creatures that do not even speak the same language. Value systems? Different. Social rules? Different. Eating habits? Well, I only place a strand of grass in my mouth when I'm relaxing with my kids (and acting like one) on a warm summer's day. My horses never share my burgers.
Here on my Ranch I work with a number of programs that have as their fundamental requirement to have people (Goal Rush Riders, Super Horse Camp participants, and an occasional boarder) communicate and cooperate well with horses: safely, effectively, and to the benefit of all.
How do people develop their relationships with their horses? And how can I better foster those relationships? All the insightful horsewomen and men that engage in natural horsemanship techniques have helped us understand that we communicate all sorts of things to our horses-good and bad. They assert that for us to develop productive relationships with our horses we need to learn to communicate well with them-listening as well as projecting. Wow, where do we start?
This is the point of my journaling here. I have the developmental requirements of my horses as well, but I love my horses; in this space I'd like to just muse about my observations and ideas about why my horses do the things they do and what are they saying to me when they do it …
Oh yes, Men are from Mars, but Horses are from Heaven!
